The Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) provides educational and networking opportunities to safety, health and environmental professionals throughout Southern Nevada.
ASSE was founded in 1911 and is the worlds largest and oldest professional safety organization. ASSE's mission is to promote the advancement of the safety profession and foster technical, scientific, management and ethical knowledge to all safety practitioners.
The Southern Nevada Chapter was incorporated in 1968 and will celebrate 50 years in 2016.
Celebrating 25 years
In 2012 the following individuals are celebrating 25 years long term service to the Southern Nevada chapter are; Myron Jones, Don Evans, and Roger Voge. Thank you to them for the service to the safety Profession.
Joseph “Joe” Nugent
The Southern Nevada American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently lost a valued member. Joseph “Joe” Hannon Nugent passed away December 15, 2012 at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. Joe had over 30 years experience in safety, risk management and insurance services. He managed safety and health programs in both the public and private sectors. Joe was a member of the National Safety Council Air Transportation Section Executive Committee. Joe served as President of the National Capital Chapter of the ASSE and was a voting member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for ANSI 92.7 standard. At the time of his passing, he was the Chief Administrative Officer of the State of Nevada’s State Consultant and Training Section (SCATS) within the Department of Business and Industry’s Division of Industrial Relations. Joe earned a Bachelor’s Degree from John Carroll University in Cleveland and held the designation as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation. Joe was a retired United States Navy Commander with four deployments in Vietnam. He was a proud member of the American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus and Southern Nevada chapter of ASSE. He is survived by his wife Lin, daughters Mary Ann Caskey, Amy Langhurst, son, Joseph, and four grandchildren. The safety community will miss Joe.
